“I wanted to win everything. Maybe next year the Stanley Cup,” said Alex Ovechkin. Thanks buddy, you stole my title for this feature. On the other hand, without you there would be no feature - so we’ll call it even. (more…)

Who is Leon Powe you might ask? Well, for starters, he is was homeless. Also, he is apparently pretty good at basketball as shown by the destruction he brought to the Lakers in game 2 of the NBA Finals last night (highlight reel above). With 21 points in 15 minutes, only Paul Pierce (28 points in 42 minutes) and Kobe Bryant (30 points in 41 minutes) scored more and they clearly had more opportunity to do so. As long as this kid can get his life together and stay off the streets, he may turn out to be a great basketball player.

Chris Cooley has a blog, and in his most recent entry, he showcases his artistic skills. While I would love to leave it at naked ladies and 80’s band logo’s, I think the best will have to be the “Floater to Yoder” (bottom right corner). I believe this was inspired by that incredible Todd Collins pass to Yoder against the Bears last year when Jason Campbell first injured his knee and everybody was crying cause we thought Collins was a scrub, and then all of a sudden we were down the field and there was Todd Yoder and it was insane! Oh man, with the Caps out, and the Wiz struggling, its a good thing we got stuff like the NFL Draft and Chris Cooley to keep us from becoming New Orleans Hornets fans.

After a tough start to the postseason, losing three straight after winning the first game to go down 3-1, the caps had another valiant comeback - led again by Alexander the Great. Winning games 5 and 6 to tie the series, our Caps forced a game 7 last night, and what a game 7 it turned out to be. Tied at 2-2 in regulation, the game went to sudden-death over time, and the caps postseason came to a halt after just over 6 minutes in when Joffrey Lupul slipped a rebound past Caps Goalie Cristobal Huet. It was a tough game, with some questionable calls, but at the end of the day, it was a great, well-matched series, and our boys played well.

I think that this team has learned a lot from this postseason, and so have the capitals fans. Hopefully DC won’t forget about hockey this offseason as quickly as it remembered the sport over the past couple of months. We have a lot of young talent on this team and they promise to bring some excitement to our town for years to come (Ovie has 13 years left on his contract!). So here’s to a fantastic playoff run, and an exciting first round, with hopes that there will be plenty more where that came from.

VS.
(Zydrunas Ilgauskas on top vs. Brendan Haywood on the bottom)

The Wizards Cav’s playoffs are exciting. This is not only a great time of year to be a wizards fan, it is also a great time of year to be an avid NBA Blog Reader. The internets are abuzz these days, especially the local ones. Here are some highlights:

1. Wizznutzz battle of the band matchups. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard.

2. Some more LeBron vs. Deshawn material From Mr. Irrelevant.

3. Bullets Forever has lots of solid content if you want a little more substance and a little less Morris Day and the Time.

Game 2 in Cleveland is tonight at 7pm on TNT. Cleveland is up 1-0 for the series, but I’m still saying it will be Wiz in 6 games.

The peoples Hockey Team is in Philly tonight for Game 3. If you haven’t been following, the series is tied (1-1) after a rather poor game 2 on Sunday. Game is at 7pm tonight, on Comcast Sports Net and probably VS as well. Get your “Alexander the Communist” T-Shirts at Concrete Pond, (assist by DC Sports Bog)

As the wiz kept the gap open in the final minutes of their win over the Pacers tonight, attention was diverted to the score of the Cavs v Sixers game. In order for the wizards to overtake Cleveland for the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference, they needed to win out (tonight vs. Pacers, Wednesday at Orlando), and needed the Cav’s to lose out (tonight at Sixers, Wednesday vs Detroit). In the final seconds of both games, it looked like Philly had pulled out with a one point lead after a failed drive and put back by Lyndon B. Johnson and Devin Brown respectively.

In celebration, Philly headed back to their locker room, presumably amongst a flurry of High Fives and various expletives, while I headed to my computer to happily blog about the increased likelihood that the Wiz could overtake Cleveland for the fourth seed and enter our third straight first-round against them, this time with Home-Field advantage.

FOOLED YOU, said the referee’s, Some idiot named Dalembert fouled Brown with 0.00001 seconds on the clock and after reviewing the play throughout the majority of Comcast SportsNite, they asked everybody back to the floor so Brown could shoot two free throws. He made both and the Wiz are stuck as the 5th seed against the 4th seed Cleveland Cavaliers for the third year straight.

Between the Wizards return to a healthy lineup, and the Caps brilliant playoff push, I’d venture to say that our little town has two of the most exciting teams going into their respective playoff’s. Look out tomorrow night for the caps game one vs. the Philadelphia whatevers (game at 7pm, should be on Comcast sportsnet)

Alex the great and the Capitals win their last game of the season and their 7th straight to clinch the division championship and the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Alex is now a shoe-in for the league MVP and the first DC star to win that title in any major sport (with the exception of the MLS of course) since Joe Theismann in 1983. For those of you (everybody) who don’t follow the capitals, now would be the time to start.

80's Deshawn and his $20,000 beard

If you thought that the combination of Gilbert’s return/last second injuries/crushing buzzer-beater loss to the bucks was the most exciting thing that happened to the washington wizards on wednesday night, then you were wrong. (incredible photographs here)
