Two short films playing at the East Building of the Nat’l Gallery in the coming weeks elucidate the District’s architectural origins. The City of Washington (March 18, 12pm) was produced by the Dept. of Treasury and presented to “the President, a joint session of Congress, and the American Institute of Architects in April 1929.” Washington, City with a Plan (March 24, 12pm), from 1950, “highlights the soon-to-be constructed Federal Triangle, using new footage of the city interspersed with existing historical material from the earlier film.” Both free.
