NO: KATE NASH by kyletm

As RACHELS could tell you, I’ve had a conflicted relationship with Ms. Nash ever since “Foundations” hit Channel 4 last year when I was in the UK. Mockney plays so much less glam on its native shores than it does over here, and if Kate held any appeal for me back then it was only insofar as she wasn’t Lily Allen. Upon returning to the US, I eventually came around to Made of Bricks (or at least 2/3 of it–I still have no use for “Dickhead,” “Birds,” “We Get On,” or “Nicest Things”)– enough, at least, to trek to Kate’s sold out show at the 9:30 Club last Thursday with MNJONES, where I found myself firmly thrust into the Nash-bashing camp once again.

Was it the crowd (most of whom have probably already Fandangoed tix to Made of Honor, and-as MNJONES pointed out to me-all insisted upon mimicking Kate’s affected drawl in horrid unison)? Was it Kate herself (who, besides looking kind of Staypuff, seemed to insist upon speeding up all her “fast” songs and slowing down all her “slow” songs by about a half a beat)? Yes, and yes. What a fucking drag.

“Nicest Things” always reminds me of sad girls.

Is this sold at Starbucks? From the picture and the description, it seems like the kind of music that would be sold at Starbucks. Or played during a tender moment on Grey’s Anatomy. Probably both.

I think the problem mostly lay with the crowd. Although, KN should be blamed for drawing all those dreadful souls into one place. Gah-ross.
