YES: Japanese People Think Hello Kitty Is Real by Jason Powell

In the 34 years she’s been around, Hello Kitty’s soothing, mouthless mug has appeared on everything from toast to guns, ventilation masks to actual cats, from the Queen of All Media to the Dark Lord of the Sith. Well those things are all fine and good for this ubiquitous mascot, but soon she’ll be one step closer to her goal of world domination as she makes her debut in the May issue of Japanese Vogue. That’s right, Hello Kitty—a fictional anthropomorphic feline—will be the star of a full-length fashion spread in which she models the newest collection of Dior by John Galliano (who will appear alongside Kitty in the photos). Thank you, Japanese people, for always taking it too far, like that weird drunk guy at the office party (or zzvvhh on any day of the week).
