YES: Shark week for Gilbert Arenas

Everyone stop what you’re doing now and immediately read Wizards star Gilbert Arenas’ blog. It is amazing. Even the Washington Post can’t get enough of Arenas’ frank, to the point writing about his new shark tank:

“…Then I’ll have my personal shark tank that’s going to be in my basement. My basement used to be my weight room but I’m converting it to a shark tank. I cut a whole wall out down there and replaced it with a 10,000 gallon shark tank. That’s going to be my aggressive tank, only filled with bullhead sharks. If anybody knows what a bullhead shark is, it’s the No. 1 killing shark in America. It can go in salt water and it can go in fresh water. I’m going to have a salt water tank so I can have my eels and my stingrays too.”

NO: Funding Cuts Hurt DC Public Libraries

Starting in October, DC Public Libraries will be forced to reduce hours due to budget cuts. The reduced hours will close ALL libraries on Fridays, move weekday opening times later and closing times earlier, and remove up to 5 neighborhood “kiosks” in the city’s most under-served areas.

However, if the library’s proposed budget is reinstated by the city the closings may not have to happen….stay tuned.

YES: GAS PRICE HIKE – The gift that keeps on giving

Not only have recent upsurges in gas prices directed conversations from the water cooler to the White House to rethinking current energy policies, gas price increases are also saving lives!

According to the National Safety Council, the U.S. experienced an overall 9% decrease in motor vehicle deaths in May.

This isn’t the first time. The Arab oil embargo in 1973 dropped traffic-related deaths down by a whopping 17%. Walking may take longer, but it is nowhere near as deadly.
