Yes: Wreckfest @ Tiffany’s by Jason Powell

Inspired by my own post, Friday night I decided to check out Wreckfest: a silly name for what turned out to be a great event (elitist scenester snobs will insert the phrase “for Arlington” here) featuring the work of local graf dudes CON, REI21, the SOVIET, RAMS, and even a surprise appearance by REZIST. Missed the live demonstration on a temp wall outside, but the Miller Lite(!) was still flowing freely inside, as was a live DJ who caused an impromptu break circle to form in the middle of the gallery. Ignored the corporate sponsorship (Scion was on their grustle at the “swag table,” zzzzzzzz…..), and caught an eclectic collection of young artists doing their thing. Check some photos here, as Friday was the closing night party. All the intellectual arguing over this show aside, a crowd like this is a dream come true for local galleries. I’ll admit, this was the first time I’d even been inside the AAC. Whether it’s this, the Stephen Colbert painting or the Hip Hop themed show at the Portrait Gallery, big ups to older istitutions trying to reach out to their future patrons.
